SAMAN DANCE

The saman dance is one of many traditional Indonesian dances that are known even worldwide. The dance is a dance of the gayo plateau tribe of the xiv century commonly performed when celebrating important events in the custom. Hence, the poem found in one of the dances of the 34 Indonesian traditional dances speaks gayo. In some literature the saman dance was developed by sheikh saman who is a scholar of gayo in southeastern aceh.

Anyone who enjoys the traditional dance of origin today would be amazed at the amazing craftsmanship of his dancers. Saman dancing is featured in sitting, being tidy, and in a row that is different from any other dance that normally performs free movements. The typical rhythmic movement of the applause and the tempo of the verse is special. The saman dance movement could not have been performed on a single person, so the dancers mixing these pats together would have done so in unison.

On November 24, 2011, saman dance was designated by UNESCO as a list of representatives of the cultural heritage of human heritage in the 6th hearing of the inter-government subcommittee for the protection of UNESCO's undisputed heritage in Bali.
