Tari Caci (Caci Dance)

 Tari Caci (Caci Dance)

Caci dance is one of the sacred traditional arts with the concept of war dance. Referring to its history, this dance is inspired by the power struggle of inter-regional youths that has been carried out for generations, until later it became a part of sacred culture and art on the island of Flores.

The performers of this dance consist of two men who fight using leather whips and shields made of buffalo skin.

When the two of them competed, the music was constantly playing along with the cheers of the audience. As one of the unique cultures of Flores, this dance is performed only on special occasions. For example, during Hang Woja (harvest season), Penti (new year rituals), traditional wedding ceremonies, and other traditional ceremonies.

Then at this time, Caci Dance has developed into a special treat for invited government guests, as well as tourists visiting Flores traditional villages.
